Celebrities and spirits: an enduring but constantly evolving story. Initially the faces of their favorite brands, they have gradually changed their tune to join forces with them or develop their own. And it seems that gins are becoming increasingly popular with these new-style producers. A non-exhaustive list of gin brands owned by celebrities.
The success of French-style gins
While stars from all over the world walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival last May, there was one star who wasn’t here to celebrate cinema. On the sidelines of the event, Brad Pitt presented The Gardener, his latest alcoholic creation. After all, this is not his first time. Since the purchase of Château Miraval in 2011, he has devoted himself to rosé wine, Champagne, and now gin. He has once again surrounded himself well, with the Perrin family still at his side, and master distiller Tom Nichol, who cut his teeth at Tanqueray. The result is a gin from the Côte d’Azur, like Miraval, that plays on freshness and citrus notes.
And it seems he’s not the only one to have succumbed to the charm of French gin. Emma Watson, Harry Potter’s unforgettable Hermione Granger, recently unveiled Renais Gin, made from Chablis grapes. A vineyard well known to the French, and for her a family affair, since her father has been making wine here since the 2000s. Local, organic, hand-harvested ingredients, terroir adding minerality, it’s all about showcasing local heritage.
A lucrative hobby
But it’s impossible to talk celebrities and gin without mentioning Ryan Reynolds. The Deadpool and Aviation Gin actor’s performance was unmissable. Just 2 years after its investment, sales had doubled in volume, and there is still talk of its acquisition by British giant Diageo in 2020 for a staggering estimated half a billion dollars. The actor has retained his involvement and remains very much involved in the brand’s creative direction and communications, with his characteristic humorous touch.
Has he inspired Snoop Dogg, who released Indoggo Gin in 2021? 26 years after the release of his track “Gin and Juice”, the rapper has decided to put theory into practice. To achieve this, it has teamed up with Trusted Spirits, a company founded by a former Diageo marketing director, and Prestige Beverage Group. They’ve perfected a strawberry-infused flavored gin, ideal for California-style chilling. Other musicians have also joined the movement, including rock veterans Kiss, Def Leppard and Ozzy Osbourne, and the list is likely to grow.
