Where does Normindia Barrel Aged gin come from?
The story of Normindia begins during the long journey of more than 6 months in India of Pierre, owner of the Domaine du Coquerel, passionate about travel and discovery. It is in the ceaseless buzz of the cities he crosses and in the course of his encounters that he becomes passionate about this country, the richness of its culture and the diversity of flavors and spices used in the local gastronomy. On his return to France, he had the idea of associating his Normandy roots with the dynamism of this country he so much enjoyed discovering. After a few months of research, it is in an old family book dating from 1765 entitled “La Chymie du Goût et de l’Odorat” approved by Louis XV – King of France, that he discovers a recipe for a distillate of juniper. The marriage of cultures will be sealed by a Gin, a spirit that lends itself perfectly to the combination of flavors of these two countries so far from each other. Then begins a long work of research and development, then selection of spices and botanicals that will be used to give this Gin a unique taste. Then comes the first maceration and micro-distillation in the laboratory. During this delicate stage, Pierre surrounds himself with a team of seasoned aromaticians, oenologists and master distillers. Two years of work, testing, tasting to arrive at a balanced recipe in which the fifteen ingredients are meticulously dosed and the macerate is then distilled in a small traditional column of Calvados. Normindia is a fresh and fruity gin reminiscent of the young Calvados of the House of Coquerel, evolving towards notes of sweet and floral spices inviting to travel.
How is this gin made?
After 2 years of painstaking work, Domaine de Coquerel in Calvados has created Normindia gin. Composed of 15 botanicals, and distilled according to Norman tradition, the idea of maturing this gin in ex-Calvados Coquerel casks was a natural one. Normindia Barrel aged Gin is aged for 6 months in ex-Calvados barrels. This ageing gives the gin more roundness.
