Where does Canaima gin come from?
Canaïma is a new Venezuelan gin, produced by the DUSA distillery, the company behind the legendary Diplomático rum brand. 65% of its botanical ingredients come from the Amazon. The plants are individually macerated and distilled in a copper still in small 500-liter batches.
How is this gin made?
A very Amazonian recipe The Canaïma gin recipe is made up of some twenty botanicals. In addition to the eight ingredients traditionally used in gins, Canaïma is made from ten Amazonian plants and one plant from Venezuela, where it is distilled. The Amazon is a pristine, fertile region, home to many species of plant familiar to the Pemon Indians.
The plants are hand-picked in the remote depths of the Amazon rainforest, with the invaluable help of indigenous communities. Each plant is then individually macerated and distilled in a traditional 500-liter copper still. The various distillates are blended by the master distiller.
Why is it so popular?
