In France and around the world, new labels are flourishing in the world of gin and follow various trends. Organic farming is becoming more and more important, as in many other sectors, both for small-scale producers and for the heavyweights of the industry. But do you know how organic gin is made?
Sustainably grown ingredients
Gin is an inexhaustible source of novelties thanks to its compositional flexibility. Thus, distillers like to unearth unknown spices, local botanicals or with unique aromas, mix fresh fruit and essential oils…and they adapt to the issues of today’s society, including the preservation of the environment. And in recent years, if there is a sustainable method that has been very successful, it is organic.
On the production side, the techniques remain the same. It is always a neutral alcohol distilled infused or macerated with different botanicals. However, the producers select only organically grown ingredients, both for distillation (grains such as rye and barley, or molasses) and for the rest of the process.
Ginsiders’ selection of organic gins
And we have several in our range. This is the case of the Gin Engine, whose packaging reminiscent of a fuel can contrasts with the products that compose it. Here you will find only 100% Italian and organic ingredients. Juniper berries meet the lemon of the Amalfi coast in an explosion of freshness. In France, the Normindia gin from Normandy offers an artisanal recipe made with coriander, cloves, ginger and apple, all organically grown. Distilled in a small traditional column heated over an open fire, it is full-bodied and gourmand. We remain on a traditional creation with La Chauffouillarde de Cascade Gin. It is made in small batches on a copper still with 9 carefully selected organic botanicals. The result is a cascade of flavors that gives pride of place to citrus fruits, between roundness, freshness, power and bitterness. Alone or in cocktails, you just have to taste these organic gins.
